Maryland law allows you to decide whether to purchase natural gas supply from your utility or a licensed retail natural gas supplier (gas choice).
Benefits to customers may include:
In a competitive market, some suppliers may offer rates below the utility’s default rate, typically expressed as cents per therm. This could save you money on your monthly gas bill.
Some suppliers offer products that include environmental benefits such as carbon offsets purchased from projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, etc.
Some suppliers offer rewards for enrolling, such as gift cards, airline miles, etc. You will need to decide if these incentives, combined with the supplier’s rate, are a good choice for your budget.
If you switch, your utility will continue to deliver your natural gas supply, and respond to safety or service problems. The quality, reliability, and maintenance of your natural gas service will not change and will continue to be monitored and regulated by the PSC.
